The museum shows the evolution of currency - from barter to coins to paper money and, later, to e-money. It captures the journey of the monetary system in the Indian subcontinent. The coinage section has coins that date back to the 6th century B.C. RBI Monetary Museum is a unique museum set up by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) – the most important financial institution of the country. The former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, inaugurated the museum. The exhibits are designed to capture everyone’s interest from children to adults. These exhibits include different types of coins across dynasties, medieval India, pre-British, British and modern-day India, paper currencies over the years, gold bars and other instruments of financial transaction. There are also interactive displays with quizzes and slideshows for children.
