A famous legend regarding Brahmapur Temple of Lord Shiva centers around powerful Muslim emperor Ghaznavi who intended to rob all the wealth of the Shaivite Temple and destroy the abode of Lord Shiva despite the warnings from the villagers and the devotees that no one can protect him from the wrath of Mahadev. The proud emperor did not listen to the villagers and disrespected the lord by questioning his existence and threw a challenge to Mahadev. In the morning the entrance of the temple moved from East to West, he will leave the temple unharmed. In the morning when the emperor reached to ravage the temple, he was astonished to find the entrance of the temple in the West. The emperor understood the powers of Lord Shiva and left without robbing the temple.
