Architecture

The Daijokyo Buddhist Temple had been constructed on the 2 acres of land. The Main Hall on the first floor enshrines the principal images of Daijokyo, the Eternal Shakyamuni Buddha, Visistacaritra, Anantacaritra, Visuddhacaritra, and Supratisthitacaritra. The three-story pagoda atop the rooftop contains Reliquary Hall (third floor) which enshrines holy relics of Buddha and Founder's Hall (second floor). The adjoining area has the great Buddha statue.

Great Buddha Statue - The Great Buddha Statue is an 80 ft tall statue of Buddha sitting in a meditating position on a lotus leaf. It was built by the Daijokyo temple society and is being maintained by them. It took almost seven years and 12000 masons to build this structure. It was inaugurated by His Holiness Dalai Lama in 1989 and is the first and the largest statue of Buddha ever constructed in India.

History

This sect built a beautiful peace Pagoda at Nagoya in 1976 to enshrine the Sacred Holy Relics of Gautama Buddha for the promotion of world peace and happiness. The propagation of the Daijokyo teachings in India commenced in March 1977 in the form of assisting the suffering humanity through agricultural, educational, and various other social services. This Temple was inaugurated on February 13, 1983 by the then President of India, His Excellency Gyani Zail Singh.

The term ‘Daijokyo’ means ‘Mahayana’ or ‘Great Vehicle’. The Japanese Daijokyo Buddhist sect believes in the Lotus-Sutta doctrine propagated by Nichiren (A.C.1222-1282). The Daijokyo Sect was founded in September 1914 by Late Rev. Tatsuko Sugiyama (1868-1932) with her first disciple Dr.Itsuki Murakami of Aichi Medical College at Nagaya, Japan, with its Headquarters at Daijokyo Sohonzan Temple, Nagoya. According to this sect Buddha is considered to be the one worthy of devotion. He is the All-Wise Knower of the One Benefactor and a great teacher.
