Architecture
The history of this temple is filled with fascics and miracles. According to Tretayuga, When Rama doubts Sita's chastity, she undergoes a trial by fire (Agni Pariksha). Sita enters a burning pyre declaring that if she has been faithful to Rama let the fire not harm her, she comes out unscathed with the fire-god Agni as proof of her purity. Sita is very sad Mother Sita pleaded with her mother that if she really is a sati, then the Earth should burst here and the Earth mother should absorb them in her. So that the Earth mother was torn apart and Sita went with Mother Earth. Therefore, the name of this place was known as Patelswari Devi, which later became known as Pateeshwari Devi.
It is said that the right shoulder (called as Pat in Hindi), of Mata Sati had fallen here and hence it is also one of the Shakti Peetha and is called as Devi Patan. On top of the sanctum, there is a statue of Mother Pateshwari with a Silver plattet and many jewelery ceilings and the Copper plate is marked on Durga Saptashati. In the North of the temple there is koneru named as Suryakund.
Religious Significance
ngered by not seeing her husband Mahadev's place in the yajna of her father Prajapati Daksha, angry Sati gave up her life in anger. Shocked by this incident, Shiva destroyed the Daksha-Yajna and placed the dead body of Sati on his shoulder and began to roam in the three worlds, then there was a disruption in the world cycle. Then Vishnu cut off various organs of Sati-carcass from Sudarshan-Chakra and dropped it at different places in India. Wherever parts of Sati's body fell on earth, Shaktipeeths were established there. The left wing part of Sati fell here Hence this place is famous as Goddess Patan. Here, on the orders of Lord Shiva, Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath first started by constructing a monastery for the worship of the Goddess and himself was engaged in worshiping Jagjanani for a long time. Thus, this place is a Siddha Shaktipeeth as well as a Yogpeeth.
History
The temple was built in 11th century A.D. by King Vikramaditya. It is said that Karna received Brahmaast from Parashuram here. King Suheldeo of Sravasti, Guru Gorakshnath of the Nath Sampradaya established Devi Patan Siddha Peeth.
