Architecture

Kansua Temple is situated on the banks of River Chambal in Kota and is known for its splendid architecture. Karneshwar temple is another name of Kansua Temple, which is famous for its four headed Shivlinga which looks unique and beautiful. It is the site where James Tod found an inscription in 1820 A.D. that reveals the rule of the Jat king Maharaja Shalendra in Kota region in 5th century A.D.

History

This temple is about 1250 years old and built by Pandavas. The Temples in Kota were conquered by the Hada chieftain Rao Deva. But during the reign of Jahangir, who had been a deep admirer of architectural works, paintings and other art forms, these temples were gifted to the Mughals by Madho Rao, the son of Rao Deva. Ever since the stone city of Kota is sated with plentiful amount of stone idols of various figures, gold blemished glass works on the murals of the temple, silver mirror works embossing the prettiness, the Mughal Emperor Jahangir accepted the possession of Kota quite willingly. Consequently, while walking through the passage, you will see numerous Mughal Paintings and architectures.
