The complex of Lakshmi Narayan temple has around six stone Sikhara temples. The three Sikhara temples are dedicated to Lord Vishnu and other three are dedicated to Lord Shiva. The main idol of Lord Vishnu is made up of rare marble, which used to be found in the mountains of Vindhyas.

  • The image of Lord Vishnu present in Laxminarayan temple was made of a rare marble imported from Vindhyachal Mountains.
  • As the erstwhile king of the region, Sahil Verma, who constructed this temple, sacrificed eight of his sons to get the marble.

Dress Code

  • For men the dress code is Shirt & Trouser, Dhoti or Pyjamas with upper cloth.
  • For women the preferred dress code is saree or half-saree with blouse or chudidhar with pyjama and upper cloth.
  • Shorts, mini-skirts, middies, sleeveless tops, low-waist jeans and short-length T-shirts are not allowed.
  • The weather is cold throughout the year. Rainfalls and snowfalls often occur there. one should wear proper winter clothes with mufflers and gloves. An umbrella is also a must to carry.

Architecture

The temple has Known for fine classical forms, the temple has been built in shikhara (spire) style with wooden chhatris (cenotaphs) and a shell roof at the top to protect against snowfall. The marvelous architecture, the temple has a tall and wavy tower and its facades are divided upwards into vertical sections. The top most section of the temple is bell-shaped.There is a wheel shaped roof that helps to protect from cold. It houses a metallic image of Garuda, the mount of Lord Vishnu. It's a beautiful place of great historical implication and architectural marvel. It has a mandapa like structure too. The entire area includes six temples in a row from north to south and is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Vishnu.

Religious Significance

The history says that the idol of Lord Vishnu in this temple was made of a rare marble, which was imported from Vindhyachal Mountains. It is believed that the former king of the region- Sahil Varman had sacrificed his eight sons to get the marble and finally his eldest son namely Yugkara succeeded to acquire the marble. In fact, he was too attacked by the robbers but due to a saint, he had saved himself from robbers.

History

This temple is said to be built around 10th Century. There are also other temples in the complex like Radha Krishna Temple built by Rani Sarda (wife of Raja Jit Singh in 1825), Shiva Temple of Chandragupta built by Sahil Varman and the Gauri Shankar Temple built by Yugkar Varman (the son of Sahil Varman). There is a Garuda statue in metal watches over the main gate, which is placed by Raja Balabhadra Verma. The latest addition to the shrine in historical periods was in answer to the Mughal terror. Then Aurangzeb the emperor order to demolish the temple and the Raja Chhatra Singh included gilded elevations to the temple in the year 1678.
