Architecture

The architectural beauty of the Takhteshwar Temple in Gujarat represents the typical late 19th century style and is made of pure marble. Takhteshwar Temple is perched on a hillock boasts finest Gujarat style of architecture making it one of the most appealing temples in Bhavnagar. Supported on 18 ornately carved pillars, the temple has a beautiful main hall.  Around the main shrine of Lord Shiva, there are images of Hindu gods and Hindu symbols that have been prepared by hand. The courtyard also houses a small statue of Nandi the bull. Magnificent courtyard of the temple, right below the 'sikhara', boasts exquisite marble work carving is noteworthy. One will have to pass through marble-clad pedestrian stairs to reach the main temple. From the temple, one gets to see the spectacular view of the Gulf of Cambay.

History

The temple was constructed back in the year 1893 A.D. and was named after Maharaja Takhatsihnji who was one of the most important rulers of Bhavnagar. He was the one who ordered who ordered to build the temple.
