Architecture
Sri Pattabhi Ramaswamy temple is also known as Sri Kodanda Rama temple. Here the lord is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple is facing towards North direction. Sri Pattabhi Ramaswamy temple has a 4-tier Rajagopuram. On Garbha gudi Sudarshana Chakra the disc stands on the top of the main temple in place of the customary kalasa.
Here is a Sasana which says that Mahanayamkaracharya Kambam Timmanayani Venkatadri Nayanim had given Vavilpadu lands in the Kandanavolu region to this temple of Raghunadha for which Achyuta Devaraya gave his consent in 1534 A.D. At one time the district Collector of Kadapa an English man named Hardings prayed to the God to relieve him of his stomach ache. He had built a beautiful four pillared pavilion before the temple. There are three unjali pavilions.
Religious Significance
Sri Pattabhi Ramaswamy temple was built by Jambavanta who is an Vijayanagar Empire. Sage Valmiki did penance here and found the idols of Sita Rama, Lakshman, Bharata and Satrughna and these were consecrated by Jambavanta.
History
Krishna Deva Raya’s and Chola’s were contributed for temple. Tallapaka Ananmacharya penned as many as 21 ‘Sankeertanas’ in praise of the Pattabhirama Swamy deity here. The temple was renovated on the Sixth of April in 2006 the image of Sage Valmiki was installed here by T.T.D.
