Architecture

Sun Temple is also known as Surya Temple. The structure of temple has been designed with elegance. The temple complex has the shape of a big chariot with eighteen wheels and seven lifelike horses that seem to be ready to take off for the journey. There is a pond in the temple premises, which serves as a sacred place for Chhathavratis. The temple is ideally being constructed away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded and noisy city amidst the beauty of nature.

Religious Significance

Why here : Legend tells us that King Shamb, while suffering from leprosy discovered the Surya Talab that cured him when he bathed in it. The statues in the temple were supposedly found in this pond and the temple’s sanctum hosts the black stone statues of Lord Surya in his chariot, along with his mother, brother and his son.

History

Surya temple was built in 800 B.C. and Shri Ram Maroo is the contributor of this temple.
