Architecture

According to the legends, A saint by name Kapila Maharshi instituted the idol of Sri Someswara Swami on a hill. The hill called as Kapila Konda. The villagers used to call it as Apilakonda which is eventually became Appikonda. Sri Somalingeswara Swamy Temple has a Dwaja Stabham placed infront of the Grabha Gudi. It's one of the oldest and famous temple believed to be built in 11th century AD, inscriptions found on temple date back to 14th century king Upendra Chakravarthi son of Koppaladeva Chakravarthi of Elamanchalli Chalukya Family.

History

Sri Someswara Swamy Temple was built in 12th Century A.D., Cholas, Kullotungas, Eastern Chalukya are the contributors for this temple.
