Goddess

The main diety of this temple is Uchaitha Bhagwati, who is an incarnation of Goddess Shakti. The Goddess is depicted having four arms. She is holding a sword with a wide knife (khadag) in her left hand and a chakra in the right hand. She is sitting in a pleasant pose (sukhasana) and has a chakra sculpted on the sole of her feet.

Architecture

The temple was built in Indo Aryan style of architecture. The idol of Goddess Durga is placed in the sanctum sanctorum (garbha graha) of the temple shows her sitting high on the back of a lion in bliss and blessing mood. The idol of the Goddess is carved on a black stone on this bench.

Religious Significance

It is said that when years ago, the Maharajadhiraaj Shri Rameshwar Singh had insisted on reinstalling the head of the image of the deity, just a night before installation of the newly designed head, the goddess appeared in the king's dream and asked him it was right for him to create the creator. The head was hence not installed and is still kept right next to the statue of the deity.

History

The temple was built in 100 B.C. and renovation work done in 1960.
