Anandavalleswara is the main deity of this temple, who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Here deity is in form of Lingam facing in West direction and deity installed by Parashurama.
Goddess Parvathi Devi is facing towards East. Here idol is in Standing posture and has a lotus flower in one of her hands.

Architecture
Lord Shiva of this temple is called as ‘Ananda Swaroopa’ and Devi Parvathy is called as ‘Swayamvara Parvathy’. They are said to be in a happy state and hence the temple name ‘Anandavalleswaram’. The temple has a Dwajastambham a Golden flagstaff and constructed in Kerala Style of architecture. This temple has constructed with teak wood and has a temple pond. The main Sanctum Sanctorum of Anandavalleeswaram Sri Mahadevar temple is 1200 years old and it constructed in Teak wood. This is the only Hindu temple in India which has the deities of Sree Krishnan, Maha Vishnu, Bhoomi Devi and Lakshmi Devi consecrated as idols under a single structure (Sanctum sanctorum). The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva is facing west in the main Sanctum Sanctorum and his consort Devi Parvathy is also in the same sanctum sanctorum (Sreekovil) is facing east.
History
This temple was 1110 years old and constructed by Navakody and Narayana Chettiyar an industrialist from Thanchavur. Chettiyar family is the contributor of this temple. The temple was renovated and new idol made of Panchaloha (Alloy of five metals – iron, copper, tin, silver and gold) during the year 1806 A.D.
Threats during invasions : It is said that the deity was the tutelary deity of the Venad dynasty. During the civil war between Veluthampy Dalawa and the British, some damages had been caused to the temple and it was repaired by the British Government in 1823 A.D.
