Architecture
Khuldabad was known as Bhadravati earlier and it was during Mugals’s rule the place was renamed as Khuldabad. ‘Khuldabad’ in Parsi means ‘entrance to heaven’. Bhadravati means ‘a sacred place’. Both these names, by themselves, give us an idea about the greatness of this place. Shri Bhadra Maruti Temple is built in traditional style of architecture. This temple is built with white marbles.
Religious Significance
In ancient times, Khuldabad was renowned to be Bhadravati and was ruled by a ruler named Bhadrasena who was a strong devotee of Lord Ram. Once, when Bhadrasena was lost in singing the bhajans of Lord Ram, Lord Hanuman arrived at his place listening his songs. Lord Hanuman was so happy that he silently took a sleeping pose - a yogic posture called as Bhavya Samadhi. After finishing the song, when Bhadrasena saw Lord in resting posture, he asked him to bless the site with his presence.
History
It is an ancient and historical temple, the exact date and construction of the temple was remains unknown. This temple is built by Shri Narayangiri Maharaj and renovation completed in 1992. Bhadrasena was contributed for this temple. After the area fell to the Mughals, the temple was destroyed completely. However, the idol of Lord Hanuman is said to have been rescued successfully and kept hidden for centuries. In the 1960's, locals took the initiative to construct this temple in marble and reinstate the idol to its rightful place.
