Architecture

Mahadeva Temple was constructed with Perunthachan style of architecture and has a pond known as Pangulam. Garbhagriha temple has a circumference of 42 m, decorated with the goodness and talent of Perunthachan architecture. 68 wooden pillars in the temple mean 64 forms of art and 4 Vedas. The temple has a wide namaskaramandapa. A large statue of Nandi looks to the west.

History

Mahadev temple was built in 525 B.C by Sri Uliyannoor Perunthachan and was renovated in 12th Century A.D. It is said the attack of Tipu Sultan destroyed the Dwarapalakas and damaged the Nandi idol. As we observed at Kizhthali Siva Temple, here also the ruthless attack would have probably destroyed all the original constructions and works of Perunthachan.
