Architecture
This Temple faces East direction and built in Pallava style of architecture. This cave is excavated on a free standing boulder which is about 11 feet long and 25 feet wide from north to south. The sanctum carved towards the back wall of the cave. The inscription found in this temple calls this place Mahendra Vishnu Graha. The seven rock cut caves accompanying the inscriptions of Mahendravarman-I, Mahendra Vishnugriha, is the lone rock cut cave temple dedicated to Vishnu. The inscription in the Mahendra-Vishnugriha (Mahendravadi) mentions about the presence of Mahendra-Thataka (Mahendra Lake) around Mahendravadi. Inscriptions mentioned here note that the temple was excavated by Gunabhara. The cave temple is supported on two rows of pillars, they are cubical on top and bottom with an octagonal intermediate portion and pilasters.
Religious Significance
The cave temple is formed by completely scooping out a large free-standing boulder. This templs bulit from 600 - 630 C.E, by Pallava King Mahendra Verman - I.
