Sri Neelakanteswara Swamy is the main deity of this temple, who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva also has Chaturlingeswara name & this place called as Chaturlingeswara Kshetram. Here the Lord Shiva in the form of Nageswara, Mallikarjuna, Sangameswara and Neelakanteswara Swamy located in the temple.

Architecture

This temple reflects Kalinga architecture and culture. Rich carvings of Siva, Kartikeya, Brahma, Vishnu, Saraswati, Nataraj, Arthanareeswara, Vinayaka, Mahisasura Mardini can be seen on the walls of Garba Griha. The entrance door was beautifully carved with the Idols of Navagrahas and Lakshmi. The temple consisting of a deval and Jagamohana. The flat roof of the Jagamohana is supported by two rows of pillars. The inscriptions engraved on these pillars Numbering 55, belong to Eastern Ganga Dynasty.

History

This temple built during the reign of Gangas. Eastern Ganga King Ananta Varma Choda Ganga Deva who was an ardant devotee of Lord Shiva built this temple in 1010 A.D.
