  • The unique feature about this shrine is that the huge image of the Lord is made out of 110 kilograms of butter after every four years.
  • It is amazing to know that the butter never melts. After every four years, the butter deity is broken and distributed amongst the devotees.

  • These rules are applicable for foreigners also. Shorts, mini-skirts, middies, sleeveless tops, low-waist jeans and short-length T-shirts are not allowed.
  • Pilgrims/visitors will not be allowed inside the temple if dress code is not followed.

Architecture

The name Dodda came because of the huge size of Ganesha idol in the temple. This temple has a 3 tier Rajagopuram.

History

Kempe Gowda found of Bangalore, once found a big rock which is looking like Ganesha and ordered his sculptures to carve it well and built a temple dedicated to Lord Vinayaka. This temple was built in 16th century by Kempe Gowda.
